Forks Over Knives Review - Changing the Way America Eats.

Another "must see" movie!  


My sister said she watched this film from her NetFlex account over the weekend.  I wanted to have my own copy so I ordered it from Amazon.com.  


"Forks over Knives examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods." 


A couple of points that I took away from watching this movie were -


1)  Even if you decide not to totally eliminate meat and dairy from your diet, it is important to eat small amounts (meat/dairy) and buy organic/free range whenever possible. 


2) "Let food be thy Medicine" - Hippocrates, father of medicine.   There are so many healing properties that have been reported from eating a diet high in fruits, vegetables and unprocessed whole foods.  Degenerative diseases and even some cancers can almost always be prevented and even reversed by adopting a whole-foods, plant-based diet.  


3) This will be another movie that I encourage my own children to watch.  Maybe on the next family vacation that we take together...mmmm.  Hopefully, it will remind them how important it is to eat meals at home instead of buying "take-out" where you get a highly processed meal with too much fat, sugar and sodium that is low in fiber and healthy nutrients. 


Even Dr. Oz says, "I loved it and I need all of you to see it."

Mental Illness Help - Thanks to Omegas!

Psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia are devastating forms of mental problems where people lose contact with reality and can end up hurting themselves or others.   The treatment for these psychotic disorders are usually heavy psychiatric drugs that have numerous side effects and/or institutionalization.  

I know this all too well, because my brother, Brian was a schizophrenic.  His illness was not only traumatic for him but for our entire family.  Unfortunately, Brian ended up taking his own life because he was so tormented by this disease.

 Twenty-two years later, we wish we would have known the value of looking for alternative ways to deal with this disease instead of watching the doctors pump high dosages of drugs into Brian and giving him shock treatments as well.  Today, knowing what we know now through our own research over the years, we would have taken a more nutritional approach and incorporated fish oils, B vitamins and other supplements into his diet.

The good news is that there is hope.  We continue to learn more on how to treat these psychotic disorders with natural substances such as Omega-3 fatty acids, that have virtually no side effects, and we may be able to prevent or at least change the severity of these illnesses.
